Boston based Ethiopian funk group DEBO BAND stopped by The Cedar last Monday afternoon to put on a program for Cedar Riverside Community School.  Danny Mekonnen, Debo Band’s frontman, talked to a group of roughly 50 students about his coming of age as an Ethiopian American, his inspirations(his parents, jazz a la Coltrane, universal rhythms and melodies), and got everyone in the room clapping to the beat.  Our next day program features the Malian griot, Bassekou Kouyate and his group Ngoni Ba next Wednesday, November 2.
