It’s hard to come down on the man who has been consistently celebrated for his oddball characteristics for 5 decades now. With this type of performance it is more about the spirit of his being and that fact he’s persevered for as long as he has and stayed active. In the end it is what it is, you can’t expect the level of musicality or grand wisdom to spew forth the way it did with Perry in his prime. In all we are blessed by the enormous body of work the man has given us and it was with great pleasure and respect that we were able to share the time together as those in attendance basked in his presence.

North Carolina’s BOWERBIRDS flew (sorry) into The Cedar’s nest (sorry again) back in March and one glorious song was captured by Minneapolis’s own Dan Huiting.  It’s worth your time.

Seated or Standing…

We get asked about shows being seated or standing all the time.  This should shed some light on the issue…

Q: How does The Cedar determine if a show is to have seats or not?

A: This is entirely driven by the artist(s) or their representative. Some music is meant for dancing, and some artists simply prefer the energy of a standing crowd, or the ambience of a seated room. In many cases, an artist would simply play at a different venue if The Cedar did not offer the option of a seated show or a standing show. Either way, the decision is made when the show is booked, and clearly identified before tickets are put on sale. For standing shows, we will accommodate those with special needs with chairs upon request, although in those instances we cannot guarantee an unobstructed view of the stage.

We’ve got Mama by Emily Wells on regular rotation in our office (the album was released  on April 10 by Partisan Records). If you haven’t heard any yet, check out this self-directed video for Mama’s first single,”Passenger.” Emily tells IFC that “Passenger” is “a collection of short videos taken while touring, moving postcards of light and wind, me banging on drum, and many experiments with stop motion and my homemade buffalo.”

Emily Wells will be at The Cedar tomorrow night with the Portland Cello Project, who also have an album to release. Yes, a dual CD release. Awesome!
